Pros and Cons:

Pros: Storyboard mode, video remix, and the ability to inspect what others are creating is a huge advantage for the platform. These are standout features you won't see with other AI video generators.

Sora is also great for creating cartoon-like animations and realistic landscape videos like Drone flyovers.

Cons: The price... wow, the price is bad. A current subscription for full usage and features will run you $200 a month for clips with 1080p and 20s duration on an OpenAI pro plan.
A ChatGPT plus plan will get you a max of 50 videos at 480p and 5s duration length.

Sora also suffers severely from prompt adherence and video permanence. Plus, don't even bother creating videos with people or animals expecting it to replace the real thing.

The Motive:

Is Sora better than the competition and worth the price? Short answer: Nope!

There are a lot of features that make it stand out, and it does have the ability to create stunning content. But, the price is a factor, and text-to-video is still a long way from creating realistic videos of people and animals that follow the laws of physics.

Who is it for? If you work for a business that will flip the monthly bill, then go for it. If not, then I recommend RunwayAI or Dream Machine by Luma Labs.

 🍎 Finally, there was an announcement about the long-awaited ChatGPT integration with Siri last Wednesday. This was part of OpenAI's Christmas rollout and was announced in the Apple Intelligence News Room. 
The rollout of Apple intelligence features has been relatively slow, and some features are still in beta testing.

Summary:

Requirements: You will need an iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, or any iPhone 16 model to utilize Apple Intelligence. The integrated AI features need a little extra juice from Apple's newest chip, and Apple users will be using the ChatGPT-4o model.

Why is there a partnership between these two?

Apple has been diving into AI for quite some time now, but Apple intelligence is better suited for basic AI use cases, so in comes OpenAI. When Siri is asked a question or performs a task beyond Apple's capabilities, ChatGPT takes over.

Safe Guards: Apple states there are built-in privacy protections so OpenAI will not store your information, and you will be asked to give permission each time ChatGPT kicks in.

Apple users don’t need an OpenAI account to use the ChatGPT integration, but you can pay for upgraded versions of ChatGPT through the Apple Store.

Apple Intelligence updates also include Image Playground, Genmoji, Writing Tools enhancements, and Visual Intelligence.

Image Playground: AI lets you create stylistic tweaks to your images with concepts like themes, costumes, accessories, and places. You can also change pics by animating them, or 3D-animated looks — and Illustrations. This can be integrated right into messages.

Visual Intelligence: You can summarize and copy text, translate text between languages, detect phone numbers or email addresses with the option to add to contacts, and more. But this feature will only work on the iPhone 16 lineup.

Timing: The iOS 18.2 update is critical for Apple. Apple intelligence features are the primary focus for the iPhone 16 lineup's marketing campaign and free availability to access ChatGPT.

The Motive:

The hype between Apple and OpenAI flared up last summer, but Apple intelligence has been a slow-burning ember since.

Many investors are touting Apple to be a leader in AI with their ease of use and natural language approach, and with the integration finally culminating between the two companies, is set to drive sales, but if Apple needs OpenAI to lift those heavy AI loads, then how can Apple be an AI leader?

So far Apple Intelligence has not driven sales the way investors expected, and as of writing, OpenAI appears to be the winner in this agreement escalating their exposure.
