đź“¸ The Power Of Google Lens: How to Use It and Why It's a Game-Changer.

image created in Midjourney

đź“¸ Google Lens now integrates voice input, allowing users to ask questions about their surroundings in a natural, conversational manner. By pointing your camera and speaking your query, you receive AI-generated overviews along with links for deeper exploration.

Summary:

  • Simplified Interaction: Previously, users were required to take a photo and manually input their queries. Now, voice queries allow access to information in real-time.

  • Voice Search: You can search by capturing videos and inquiring about moving objects. Google’s AI systems interpret both voice and video content to provide overviews and relevant web resources.

  • Enhanced Shopping Experience: Lens offers improved shopping features that present product information, including reviews, pricing across various retailers, and purchasing options.

How to use:

  1. Open the Google Lens app (Android & iOS) and tap the camera icon.

  2. Point your camera at whatever you want to ask about.

  3. Hold down the shutter button and ask your question out loud, like “what kind of bird is this?”, “who painted this portrait?”, or “how much is that backpack?”

If enrolled in the “AI Overviews and more” via Search Labs, holding the shutter captures a video for enhanced context.

  4. Scroll through the results, which may include an AI Overview, as well as relevant links.

  5. To ask another question out loud about the photo you took, tap the microphone icon at the top of the results page.

The Motive:

Google Lens facilitates nearly 20 billion visual searches monthly, assisting users in exploring and understanding the world through their cameras or screens. Visual queries are among the fastest-growing search types, with significant engagement from younger demographics, particularly users aged 18 to 24.

I have been testing it out for a while now, and it's quite remarkable. It provides correct information on practically everything I point it at, from laptops to tree species. It has become my new go-to tool for exploring the world around me.

đźŽ¦ Meta's Movie Gen Unveiled: Amping Up the AI Film Battle.

Image created in Midjourney

đźŚź Meta has unveiled Movie Gen, a generative AI model designed to create and edit videos and audio content using text prompts, enabling users to produce realistic videos up to 16 sec, and generate audio elements—including ambient sounds, sound effects, and background music.
Full article by Katie Paul, link here.

Summary:

  • Advanced Video Generation: Leveraging text-based prompts, users can create videos that encompass complex visual elements, such as dynamic object motion, intricate subject-object interactions, and sophisticated camera movements.

  • Personalized Video Content: By uploading personal photographs, users can create customized videos featuring themselves or others, facilitating a deeply personalized content creation experience.

  • Video Editing Capabilities: Movie Gen allows users to modify specific elements within a video through simple textual instructions. This includes altering backgrounds, transforming objects, and adjusting stylistic attributes.

  • Audio Generation and Synchronization: Generate and seamlessly integrate audio content, including sound effects, background music, and ambient sounds.

The Motive:

Meta’s big plan to take on OpenAI’s Sora and Google’s Veo is a massive challenge. The company plans to collaborate with filmmakers and content creators to further refine their AI tool, and we could see Movie Gen integrate into Facebook, Instagram, and Threads soon, expanding Meta’s AI possibilities.

AI BREAKTHROUGH

đź“°Harvard's AI-Powered Breakthrough in Disease and Drug Discovery: Revolutionizing Healthcare.

Image created in Midjourney

đź’Š Innovative AI identifies potential treatments for over 17,000 conditions with drug repurposing. Over 7,000 rare diseases affect approximately 300 million people worldwide, posing significant human and economic burdens due to a lack of effective treatments.

Summary:

  • The AI model, called TxGNN, is developed specifically to identify drug candidates for rare diseases and conditions with no treatments.

  • Trained on extensive datasets—including genomic data, cell signaling pathways, gene expression levels, and clinical notes—TxGNN examined nearly 8,000 medications to identify potential drug candidates.

  • Published on September 25 in Nature Medicine, TxGNN is the first AI model capable of analyzing over 17,000 conditions, many with no existing treatments.

  • TxGNN outperformed leading AI models, showing nearly a 50% improvement in identifying viable drug candidates and a 35% increase in accuracy when predicting contraindications.

The Motive:

Traditional drug repurposing is time-consuming and costly, often relying on prolonged research and unreliable patient feedback. TxGNN accelerates the identification of potential treatments, enabling faster collaboration with rare disease foundations.

Although further testing is needed, TxGNN’s rapid and large-scale operation marks a new era in medical research. The tool is freely available, encouraging clinician-scientists to use AI to combat rare diseases.
