๐Ÿ“ฐ World Economic Forum Report: 41% of Companies Will Use AI to Downsize their Workforce.

Image created in Midjourney

๐ŸŒŽ๏ธ The World Economic Forum (WEF) recently released its annual Future of Jobs report, and it's not as rosy as last year's.
Full report here.

Summary:

WEF indicated, 41% of employers plan to downsize their workforce by leveraging AI. Companies are looking to AI to automate routine tasks and enhance corporate productivity.

Changes from last year: The report produced last year emphasized how AI will complement jobs and bring about net positive numbers.
This year's report did not share the same presumption but highlighted how current jobs will require AI moving forward.

Training: 77% of large companies surveyed globally stated they are planning to reskill and upskill their existing staff between 2025 and 2030 to utilize AI.

Declining Roles: Postal service clerks, executive secretaries, and payroll clerks may experience the fastest decline in numbers in coming years. Careers with administrative duties seem the most at risk in the short term.

The positive side: Around 70% of companies are planning to hire new workers with the skills to design AI tools and enhancements, and 62% intend to only recruit new employees that have an AI skill base.

Layoffs Already in Action: Companies like SalseForce, Dropbox, Duolingo, MSN, and Google have begun layoffs to restructure and boost profits with AI replacing jobs.

The report also noted that the primary impact of AI on the workforce might be the potential for expanding employee skills through human and AI collaboration.

The Motive:

If you've spent the past year thinking AI impacting the job market was something that might happen in the future, you're gravely mistaken. The AI job overhaul is in full swing.

Last year's Future Jobs Report kept job market outlooks on the optimistic side, in relation to AI shaping career outlooks. While there are some positives, if you currently do not have any AI skills and find AI looming over your career, it's time to start learning.

๐ŸŽ‰ Our Top AI Predictions for 2025: What Will this Year Bring?

Image created in MIdjourney

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿš€ I scoured the net to find the best correlations between future 2025 predictions mixed with our own opinions. Some are far right out there, while other predictions feel a little more grounded in reality. Here are the favorites in no particular order.

Summary:

No AGI in 2025

AI becoming even more ubiquitous in 2025 feels like a sure thing, but AGI is still far away from the public. Plus, AGI has become a very loose term in headlines, with experts quick to throw a little reality in after the hype.
AGI may happen at some point but donโ€™t expect it this year. Just expect more controversy surrounding the term.

Agent AIs dominate 2025

Agentic AI, systems capable of performing specific tasks autonomously, is poised to dominate in 2025. Here, we will see AI agents perform routine work and tasks instead of just generating content.

Having your own AI assistant handle mundane tasks online is just around the corner.

Meta shifts to paid models

While Zuckerberg has always praised himself for keeping the Llama models open-source and free, the cost of operating is a heavy financial burden.

Meta might keep their current models free and open-source, but the next best thing coming out might cost you.

The end of scaling laws

Watered-down version, scaling laws - the principle that more parameters, more training information, and more computing power should equal a better-performing LLM.

The term, "bigger is better" may shift to "smarter and more efficient."

Elon Musk's xAI makes a substantial leap forward.

An obvious one to some, given that Elon has joined Team Trump. Many argue this places OpenAI in a bit of an American corner.
Musk could be aligning himself to expand data centers, AI robotics growth, and driverless cars in America.

AI's Environmental Impact Takes Center Stage

AI data centers and environmental costs could be a hot topic in 2025. The energy cost and environmental impacts are already significant and should be populating headlines now, but it's not. . .

Several top companies are already in talks to build power plants to run their AI models.

OpenAI announces its own web browser.

Earlier last year, there were hints about OpenAI delivering a web browser integrating ChatGPT to compete with Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

The rumors subsided when SearchGPT came into beta testing, but OpenAI might need to broaden its ecosystem in 2025 with more products. A web browser is not out of the question.

AI and Blockchain advance together.

These two technologies seem perfect for one another, and AI emergence could be a crucial step to filling in the gaps that currently plague mainstream blockchain adoption.

The current situation is a bit of a mess, with numerous companies jumping in. 2025 may flush out the winners.

The Motive:

Regardless of whether these are right or wrong, 2025 is set up to be a thrilling year. 2024 became the year when AI in our everyday lives became a common practice, even if you know you're using it or not.

Navigating through 2025 could either mark a period of consolidation or critical breakthroughs and don't worry about AI polluting the world. Sam Altman stated AI will fix global warming. . .

AI Tools at a glance:

๐ŸŽต OpenMusic: AI-based music generation model utilizing deep-learning to create new music content.

#๏ธโƒฃ Rows AI: Move over Excel. Rows gives you the power to analyze, summarize, and transcribe data without code.

๐Ÿ”จ Gaianet.ai: A decentralized open-source AI agent developer tool for living knowledge systems.

๐Ÿคฃ Jerry Seinfeld roasted AI on The Tonight Show: Is He Right?

Image created in Midjourney

๐ŸŽค Jerry was on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last month and had a hilarious but interesting take on humans creating and advancing AI.

Summary:

He starts off by noting that before the popularity of AI began, all we've had is real intelligence, and if we create AGI, we're going to feel even dumber.

"We're smart enough to event AI, dumb enough to need it, and so stupid we can't figure out if we did the right thing."

The big question has been asked since developing AI towards AGI. If we create something superior and smarter than us, should we even do it?

We keep acting like AGI will serve our interests and go about as a servant to our text prompts and verbal demands, but if AI is like a child at the moment, it's going to hit those teenage years and blast into AGI adulthood.

If you're clever enough to go out and do your own thing, you typically do that. Leaders in the industry talk about guardrails and safe AI precautions, but AI has been found to lie and mislead users, and that is in its current state.

The Motive:

For the part, "We're dumb enough to need it." Dumb might not be the right word, possibly lazy, and many AI influencers like to throw in the word productivity. I certainly do.

At what point do we rely so heavily on AI that the dumbing down of society begins to rot from within? Many believe this is already happening, but I like to think we keep getting smarter.

We'll see what Jerry has to say about it in 2030.
